The following vehicles are considered as 'automobiles' for insurance
purposes:
private passenger vehicles, including light trucks
commercial vehicles, including farm trucks
travel trailers, motor homes and vans
snowmobiles, motorcycles, ATV's
The standard sections of an automobile policy are:
Section A (Third Party Liability) The minimum coverage in New Brunswick
is $200,000. The minimum in Nova Scotia is $500,000. The minimum
recommended amount in $1,000,000.
Section B (Accident Benefits)
Section C (All Perils, Collision, Comprehensive, Specified Perils)
Section D (Uninsured Motorist)
DCPD (Direct Compensation - Property Damage) (New Brunswick only. For

Endorsements
Provincial laws regulate automobile insurance. In Nova Scotia the
following sections of the insurance policy are mandatory: Sections A, B,
D. These sections are also mandatory in New Brunswick in addition to
DCPD.
In addition, if there is a loan or lien on the automobile, the lending
institution will usually require the Collision and Comprehensive
coverages under section C. This applies to leased vehicles as well.
Some endorsements might be required as well, depending on your
individual situation and the requirements of the insuring company.
